8th Inter Regiment Handball Tournament Concludes at Panagoda

A total of 208 sportsmen and women representing 13 Regiments of the Army including two Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps battalions competed in the Inter Regiment Handball Tournament that got underway at Panagoda, Army Physical Training School gymnasium during 8 - 10 September.

Major General G.M.N Perera RWP RSP USP ndu, General Officer Commanding, 22 Infantry Division and the Chairman, Army Handball Committee as the Chief Guest attended the closing ceremony on Sunday (10 Sept).

During the final encounters, Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps (SLAWC) clinched the Women’s Championship pushing Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps (SLAGSC) team with the runner-up trophy (42 - 15 points).

In the thrilling final tussle in the men’s category, Sri Lanka Army Sinha Regiment (SLSR) players became the champions scoring 23 - 22 against Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) team, leaving them as the runner-up in the tournament.

Major General G.M.N Perera RWP RSP USP ndu, gave away trophies and certificates to the winners. Senior Officers, Officers and a large crowd of Other Ranks witnessed the thrilling tournament.

Best Goalkeeper (Men) - Corporal S.P.S.M Amarasinghe - SLSR

Best Goalkeeper (Women) - Lance Corporal A.M.A.S Wijerathne - SLAWC
