8,000 Students from Vavuniya to Sit GCE O/L

MORE than 8,000 students from among the displaced in Vavuniya had applied for this December’s GCE Ordinary Level Examination, and this is an increase from the 6,000 who applied for the exam from Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu last year, the Education Ministry said yesterday.

Education Minister Susil Premajayantha said a large number of students from these two districts were unable to sit the exam last December due to the war situation.

Mr. Premajayantha said the Ministry would make additional educational arrangements for these students.

“Every weekend, we send teachers to conduct extra classes for these students. We are now carrying out a survey to identify the remaining students who are eligible to sit the exam this time,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Ministry, in co-operation with the Defence Ministry, is also making arrangements for ex LTTE combatants to sit this exam. (Courtesy: Daily Mirror)
