8 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (8 VIR) troops on account of its 29th Anniversary on Saturday (3) in collaboration with the Medical Staff at the National Blood Bank - Mannar Branch gave away blood at the camp premises for the benefit of patients in Mannar. More than 100 blood donors participated in the blood donation campaign, including Officers, Other Ranks, and civil staff of the 8 VIR.
The anniversary commemorative events included an alms-giving to members of the Maha Sangha on 01 December in memory of fallen War Heroes. Similarly, a free dry ration distribution programme for 25 needy families in the area also took place where Brigadier Shihan Fernando, Commander, 542 Infantry Brigade attended as the Chief Guest.
The anniversary day included a Guard Turnout that welcomed Major G.N.P.R Silva, Commanding Officer of 8 VIR. Planting of an ironwood sapling, troop address, a group photograph, and an all-rank lunch were among other projects that marked the event. A cricket tournament on the next day was joined by both Officers and Other Ranks.
