8 SLSR Troops Build ‘Sirasa Niwasa’ for a Disabled Family

Troops of the 8 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (8 SLSR) of the 611 Brigade of the 61 Division under the Security Forces - West, together with the sponsorship, provided by ‘Sirasa’ TV constructed one more new house for a disabled family in Arandara, Kegalle and vested it in the beneficiaries on Tuesday (30).

The MTV/MBC, ‘Sirasa’ Media Network through its ‘Sirasa Niwasa’ project sought the technical assistance of the Army for erection of this house from General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army who afterwards instructed the SFHQ-West to assist with their manpower and technical assistance.

After the miserable plight of poverty-stricken Mr Roshan Wicramasinghe and his family’s living condition was brought to the notice of the sponsors turned to the Commander of the Army in order to mitigate the cost for manpower and technical assistance.

The Commander, Security Forces - West, Major General Sujeewa Senarath Yapa, together with the Group Director of Capital Maharaja Company, Mrs Needra Weerasinghe attended the formal house-warming ceremony on Tuesday (30).

In accordance with ancient traditions, the day's Chief Guest and the sponsors at the auspicious minute unveiled a plaque to that effect and joined oil-lamp lighting and milk-pot boiling rituals amidst religious observances together with beneficiaries. At the same time, a pair of crutches that can be used by a disabled child in the family were also gifted to the recipient.

Commander 611 Brigade, Brigadier Janaka Udowita, Project Officer SFHQ-West, Brigadier Thushan Ganepola, Commanding Officer, 8 SLSR, Lieutenant Colonel D.C.S.K Athukorala, Senior Officers, Officers ‘Sirasa’ officials, relatives of the family and well-wishers were associated with the day's event.
