The newly-constructed building complex of the 8 Sri Lanka Army Service Corps (SLASC) Headquarters, Diyatalawa serving under the Security Force Headquarters - Central (SFHQ-C) was declared open recently by the Quarter Master General of the Army cum Colonel of the Regiment, SLASC, Major General R Ratnasingham during a formal ceremony.
8 SLASC Commanding Officer warmly received Colonel of the Regiment of the SLASC, Major General R Ratnasingham to the 8 SLASC Headquarters premises on arrival.
A Guard Turnout of the 8 SLASC troops in keeping with military traditions, saluted the visiting Colonel of the Regiment at the entrance to the Headquarters premises and was later conducted to the saluting dais to receive the Guard of Honour presented on his behalf.
Thereafter, Major General R Ratnasingham was invited to unveil a symbolic plaque and warm the new office complex of the 8 SLASC at Diyatalawa by cutting a ribbon.
An overnight ‘Pirith’ chanting and offer of ‘Daana’ (Alms Giving) to 15 monks also took place recently before this opening ceremony at the 8 SLASC occurred.
The new state-of-the-art 4800 sqft, two-storied building of 80 feet in length and 40 feet in width was built by the SLASC troops under the qualitative supervision of the troops of the Corps of Engineer Services (CES), attached to the SFHQ-C. The project, commenced in the year 2016.
The day’s Chief Guest also left his signature in the visitors’ book and posed for a group photograph with the staff at the 8 SLASC Headquarters office before he took part in an all rank tea party.
The visiting Colonel of the Regiment planted a ‘Mango’ sapling inside the camp premises as a gesture of memory of his visit to the premises at the invitation of the Commanding Officer 8 SLASC before his exit from the premises.
The opening event was attended by the Director, Assets Management of Army, Centre Commandant, SLASC, Brigadier General Staff, SFHQ-C, Brigadier Administration & Quartering, SFHQ-C, senior officers and other rankers.
