700 Title Deeds of Released Land in Jaffna Distributed Among Original Owners

Title land deeds of 700 original land-owners of newly-released 701 acres that had hitherto been used by the Security Forces in Jaffna were handed over to the owners on Saturday (12) during a ceremony, presided by President Maithripala Sirisena at Nadeshvar College, Jaffna.

The ceremony organized by the Security Force Headquarters – Jaffna (SFHQ-J) saw the owners of 490.91 in Kopay, 210.07 acres of Telippalai and separate 6.2 acres from Jaffna Nadeshvar College premises, receive those title deeds in the ceremony.

In consistent with the government’s policy to release more and more civilians’ lands, held by the armed forces for security requirements during the war in Kilinochchi and Mullaittivu Districts, President Maithripala Sirisena on 5 October 2015 formally announced the release of those lands at a ceremony in Waddakachchi, Kilinochchi.

Soon after the President Maithripala Sirisena was elected to office in January 2015, the government in a similar move released 1000 acres in the North as a gesture of goodwill.

This national ceremony on Saturday (12) at Nadeshvar College was attended by Governor for Northern Province, Chief Ministers, Parliamentarians, Ministers, District and Divisional Secretaries, Commander of the Army, together with Inspector General of Police, SFHQ Commanders, Senior officers and civilians in the area.
