The ‘Inter Battalion Karate Championship – 2018', organized by Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) for the 9th consecutive time was held during 28 -31 October, at the Indoor stadium, Regimental Headquarters VIR, Boyagane with the participation of a large gathering of Karate fans.
At the end of the tournament, certificate awarding ceremony was held on Wednesday (31), graced by the Colonel K. A. W.N. H Bandaranayake, Deputy Centre Commandant, VIR as the Chief Guest.
During the tournament, 207 sportsmen competed for the Champion trophy by representing all VIR battalions. However, 7 VIR won the Champion trophy for the 9th consecutive time in succession by obtaining 8 Gold, 5 Silver and 5 Bronze medals. 14 VIR was adjudged runners-up by obtaining 1 Gold, 4 Silver and 4 Bronze medals.
Lance Corporal J. M. C. J Podibandara of 14 VIR was adjudged as the Best Novice Karate player of 9,8,7 categories.
Private M.C.J Perera of 7 VIR was adjudged as the Best Novice Karate Player of 6,5,4 categories.
