7 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (7 SLSR) troops promptly acted and repaired a split on the Panichchankulam tank bund in Pampaimadu on Thursday (9 Nov). One Officer and 25 Other Ranks carried out the project to avert a major disaster despite torrential rains.
The Agrarian Department-maintained tank provides water to nearly 15 acres of cultivations. In the event of a major flooding, the entire cultivations would have been perished unless the troops promptly acted and placed sandbags and repaired the leak.
Major D.M.J.A Dasanayake RSP USP, Commanding Officer of 7 SLSR carried out the task under the guidance of General Officer Commanding of 56 Infantry Division and Commander of 563 Infantry Brigade. Villagers highly appreciated the Army’s contribution.
