Touched much by their plight, Commanding Officer and all ranks of the 7 Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) Regiment serving under the Security Fore Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN), offered their financial and labour support for construction of a new house to a homeless family in Kanakapuram, Kilinochchi.
On information that the family with three little girls and a kid has been moving from one place to the other due to non-availability of a proper shelter, the 7 SLLI Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Sijith Kulasekara and his troops voluntarily came forward to build a new house for them since they have a piece of land with them.
All ranks pocketed out money and participated in the construction with the support of Sri Lanka Engineers and Engineers Service Regiment troops and completed the construction within a few weeks.
On Thursday (5), at the invitation of the 7 SLLI, Brigadier H.J Seneviratne, General Officer Commanding, 57 Division as the Chief Guest warmed the new house and formally handed it over to the family during a simple ceremony.
Religious leaders, 571 Brigade Commander, Manager, Kilinochchi Seylan Bank and relatives of the family were present at the occasion.
Kilinochchi Seylan Bank, appreciative of the project donated a stock of electric appliances and other essentials to the family on the same occasion.
