683 Brigade Troops Effect Manifold Community Projects

Army troops serving the 683 Brigade under 68 Division, Mullaittivu recently effected a string of community-oriented services for the benefit of newly resettled civilians and students in Walluvarpuram and Theravil villages.

During a special ceremony at Theravil Tamil School premises, 15 students of those resettled families received scholarships. Accordingly, each student is to receive Rs. 1000/= every month to continue school studies without being affected due to lack of financial resources.

In another move, the troops organized a medical camp and an eye camp where more than 600 civilians were examined and offered treatment. During the eye camp, a total of 100 spectacles were distributed among those who have poor eye sight.

Troops considering the requirements of Jeewajothi pre school in the area constructed a new children’s play area and formally handed it over to teachers of the pre school. On the same occasion, the spouse of the 68 Division Commander gifted toys to all 43 children in the pre school as a token of goodwill.

Similarly, school uniforms to 13 students, shirts and trousers for six male teachers, footwear and 34 Sarees for released rehabilitated women were given away during a brief ceremony at Theravil Tamil School by the troops. 

Troops also made a generous donation of 10 water pumping motors, ten oil spaying machines, 8 goats and 13 bicycles to the villagers in those areas as a part of their community-oriented campaign.

In addition, troops on 5th March 2011 distributed 3500 coconuts among villagers in those areas. At the same time, troops gave away 125 dry ration parcels among poor people in those two villages.
