A programme, designed to foster good relations and reconciliation between northern students and southern ones got underway recently at Kuruvil Tamil Vidyalaya, Udayarkattu, Mullaittivu, following the initiatives taken by troops of the 683 Brigade Headquarters under 68 Division.
With the coordination of student prefects and teachers at Sapugaskanda Vishaka Girls School, the programme titled, ‘Beyond Borders-Respect For Humanity’, coloured with various Tamil and Sinhala cultural feats, continued for more than six hours at the main hall in Kuruvil Tamil Vidyalaya, as a gesture that would help promote understanding and co-existence.
Both groups during various programmes exchanged views on different school subjects and other concerns, including environment, society, communication, etc that took place for the first time in the school’s history.
Towards the end of the programme, teachers and students from the South gave away gift parcels, inclusive of school items and educational accessories, clothes, books and different items to all 450 Tamil students and the teachers in the school.
The programme was witnessed by Major General L.B.R Mark, Commander, Security Forces Headquarters, Mullaittivu as the Chief Guest in the company of Divisional Secretary for Puthukkudiyiruppu, Zonal Education Director for Puthukkudiyiruppu, General Officer Commanding 68 Division, 682 and 683 Brigade Commanders, Commanding officers of 7 Gemunu Watch and 5 Sri Lanka Signal Corps units, principal and teachers.
