6 Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) troops of the 682 Infantry Brigade in the 68 Infantry Division under the Security Force HQ - Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT), giving a further boost to the Army's ongoing house construction for the needy, erected one more new house to a deserving family residing in Sivanagar, Puthukkudiyiruppu with Army-coordinated sponsorships and vested it in the beneficiaries during a simple warming ceremony on Thursday (July 13).
The beneficiary, Mr Suppaiyya Kanagalingam, blessed with two daughters and a son was leading a hand to mouth life without any permanent source of income. The miserable plight of the family living in a small shelter plastered with tin plates plus their current economic difficulties was brought to the notice of the 682 Infantry Brigade troops by the respective Grama Niladhari who also claimed that the family has an own plot of land in the area.
Accordingly, donors, Mr K Shantha and Mr M Suman residing at Manduvil, together with Mr S Punidawalan at Anandapuram and Mr M.B Anton at Walaimadam through the Army coordination jointly volunteered to provide monetary assistance to the value of Rs. 1,500,000/= for purchase of required raw materials and resources to the project. Similarly, 6 SLNG troops lent their technical expertise and manpower free to the project under the supervision of Major D.M.D.S Dissanayake RSP, Commanding Officer of 6 SLNG.
The project was initiated by Major General M.K Jayawardena RSP VSV USP ndu, Commander, Security Forces-MLT together with Major General S Kasthurimudali RSP ndc psc, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 68 Infantry Division and carried out under the guidance of Colonel W.W.K Rohan RSP USP, 682 Infantry Brigade Commander.
For the formal warming ceremony, the GOC, 68 Infantry Division graced as the Chief Guest, together with the Assistant Divisional Secretary - Puthukkudiyiruppu and Development Officer for Puthukkudiyiruppu. After simple warming ceremonies, Army Officers in Mullaittivu presented a stock of domestic appliances, essentials and pieces of furniture for the use of the family, along with some dry rations.
Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks and a crowd of relatives and villagers were present during the event.
