The generosity extended by Hatton National Bank (HNB) at the request of the Army enabled 200 needy school children at Kilinochchi Veravil Vidyalaya and Valeipadu Roman Catholic College to receive books and accessories, worth about Rs 400,000 as one more community welfare project, organized by the 663 Brigade of the 66 Division HQ in Punaryn under the guidance of Major General Lasantha Rodrigo, General Officer Commanding, 66 Division.
The symbolic book distribution among those selected section of students on Saturday (18) was presided by the General Officer Commanding, 66 Division. Representing the sponsors, Mr Damith Pallewatte, Deputy General Manager and senior officials of the Head Office of the HNB participated in the occasion. Further, the sponsors during the same occasion inquired into possibilities of providing drinking water facility for students at Valeipadu Roman Catholic College and initially approved the project that cost Rs 2 m.
The Commander, 663 Brigade, Brigadier K.H.N.P Hennadige, Staff Officer of 66 Division, Commanding Officers of 11(V) Gajaba Regiment and 2 Sri Lanka National Guard, Principals and Teachers of both schools and parents also participated in the distribution ceremony, adhering to strict health guidelines.
