With the objective of further promoting and developing reconciliatory gestures, goodwill and mutual understanding, a group of 75 students of Pooneryn Vinayashodai Government’s Tamil Mixed School were recently taken on a four-day picnic to the South following arrangements made by 66 Division Headquarters.
As directed by Brigadier K.A.C.H Kodithuwakku, General Officer Commanding, 66 Division, 661 Brigade Headquarters with the support of 15 (v) Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment organized the tour that covered places like Colombo, Kandy, Nuwaraeliya, Puttalam, Temple Trees, Anuradhapura and a few other tourist attractions of interest to the children.
Pooneryn Grama Sanwardhana Society and Pooneryn Fisheries Association came forward to bear the cost of the entire tour while the Army organized places for overnight stay and other facilities including meals.
Several teachers and parents joined the trip in addition to those 75 students.
