66 Division Organizes Free Distribution of Spectacles for Needy Civilians in Pooneryn

Troops of the 66 Division serving the Security Force Headquarters-Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) in coordination with the ‘Sri Lanka Eye Donation Society’, Colombo launched an ophthalmic clinic (eye clinic), where spectacles among 398 needy civilians in Pooneryn area were distributed during an event, organized at Kiranchi Government Tamil Mixed School premises in Pooneryn on Sunday (10).

The donation programme was sponsored by the Sri Lanka Eye Donation Society at the invitation of Brigade Commander, 663 Brigade, Brigadier Subhasana Welikala.

During the programme, 398 selected visually impaired people in Pooneryn area were offered spectacles after the medical examination on the same day by Consultant Ophthalmologist Dr. Ajantha Abeywardena and his medical team.

At the end of the donation programme, 38 personnel voluntarily gave their last will to donate eyes after their deaths to the Sri Lanka Eye Donation Society.

Major General Ajith Kariyakarawana, Commander, Security Forces - Kilinochchi (SF-KLN) graced the occasion as the Chief Guest at the invitation of Major General Duminda Keppetiwalana, General Officer Commanding, 66 Division.

Brigadier Subhasana Welikala, 663 Brigade Commander, Mr E.M.H.B Moragaswewa, Chairman, Sri Lanka Eye Donation Society, Mr D.C Trishan, Treasurer, Sri Lanka Eye Donation Society, Senior Officers and state officials also attended the programme.
