A special Christmas Carol programme, launched by the troops of the 66 Division was staged in the Pooneryn St. Mary’s Church premises on Tuesday (28) in consultation with church authorities.
Major General Lasantha Rodrigo, General Officer Commanding of the 66 Division attended the inauguration of the event, in which Carols were sung in coordination with St. Mary’s Church and the St. Anne’s Church Carol teams, together with 4 Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps soldiers. Carols were presented in Tamil, Sinhala and English languages while Rev. Father Sulakshana delivered the Christmas message.
Religious dignitaries of Hindu, Buddhist and Islamic faiths in the area joining the occasion added importance and colour to the occasion. The clergy in the Church extended their best cooperation for the project with the view to fostering ethnic harmony and bonds of goodwill among all communities living in the region.
