65 Division’s New GOC Familiarizes with the Area

The newly - appointed General Officer Commanding, 65 Division Brigadier Anil Samarasiri made his first official field visits to under command Brigades and Battalions during 21 - 25 July.

The programme covered 651 Brigade located at Mulankavil, 652 Brigade at Naddankandal and the 653 Brigade at Thadchana Maradamadhu.

The visiting General Officer Commanding was accorded a Guard Turnout as a military formality at the entrance and was warmly welcomed by the Commander 651 Brigade, Brigadier Wasantha Bandara on Wednesday (21). The Brigade Commander briefed the visitor on operational matters and deployment along with administrative matters. Later, the General Officer Commanding spoke out his mind to Officers and Other Ranks and visited the Brigade and its under command battalions of the 19 Sri Lanka Light Infantry, the 17 (V) Sri Lanka Light Infantry camps and Battalion Training School at Mulankavil.

Brigadier Anil Samarasiri visited the 652 Brigade and its Battalion under command, the visitor was accorded a Guard Turnout as a military formality followed by the briefing of the Commander 652 Infantry Brigade, Colonel Sanjeewa Wanasekara, Commanding Officer of 10 SLLI and the customary troop address on Thursday (22). After familiarizing with the Brigade, the General Officer Commanding visited the 10 Sri Lanka Light Infantry Battalion Headquarters.

Concluding his field visits, the General Officer Commanding made his final visit on Sunday (25) to 653 Brigade. The senior Officer was accorded a Guard Turnout as a military formality at the entrance and was warmly welcomed by the Commander 653 Brigade, Brigadier Sudantha Fonseka. It followed a briefing of the Brigade Commander, Commanding Officer of 24 Gajaba Regiment and an address to the troops. Afterwards, the General Officer Commanding visited the 653 Brigade and 24 Gajaba Regiment Headquarters.

During the all three visits, the GOC visited the troops manning road blocks, key points and vulnerable points in respective Brigade areas. As the final leg of his programme, he visited the sacred church of Our Lady of Madhu, situated in the area of responsibility under the 65 Division.
