A large stock of household accessories such as bed sheets, linen, towels, first aid medicine and boxes, soap, toothpaste, was distributed among 100 families in Karipattamurippu and Kanagarathnapuram villages in the 643 Brigade Headquarters area under the 64 Division at Muttiyankaddukulam, following coordination done by Army troops on Sunday (July 1).
Both Ven. Athurugiriye Vajirabuddhi and Ven. Medagama Gnanaloka theros of Anuradhapura Dhammachetiya Meditation monastery sponsored the donation after the Army troops under the 643 Brigade identified those low-income group families who deserve such assistance.
Each parcel of essentials, valued at Rs. 2800/= cost Rs. 3 lakhs for the donors and donation took place at the 643 Brigade Headquarters.
In the meantime, an Esala Poya Full Moon day programme conducted on Tuesday (3) at 643 Brigade Headquarters saw over 200 officers and other ranks serving the Brigade take part, following directions given by Colonel K.D.C.G.J Tillakaratne, 643 Brigade Commander.
The full-day religious observance programme including recital of Pirith was conducted by both Ven. Athurugiriye Vajirabuddhi and Ven. Medagama Gnanaloka theros of Anuradhapura Dhammachetiya Meditation monastery.
Towards the end of the programme, a special Pirith chanting session invoked blessings on the Armed Forces and the country.
