Brigadier Upul Weerakoon assumed duties as the 15th General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 64 Division on Wednesday (7) at the Divisional Headquarters in Oddusudan. He succeeds Major General Manjula Karunarathna who just retired form the Army after completion of more than 30 years of age recently.
At the outset, the incoming GOC reviewed the Guard Turn Out, presented by Divisional troops on arrival at the Headquarters premises.
The GOC was welcomed by the Colonel General Staff and all senior officers in the 64 Division before he was ushered to his new office complex. Amid religious blessings, the new GOC left his signature in an official document and signified the acceptance of the new office.
In line with formalities, the new GOC planted a sapling prior to the troop address where he expressed his vision for the Division. Senior officers and other ranks attended the event.
