64 Division with Sponsorship of Southerners Erects Two Homes for the Needy

A brief inaugural arrangement, organized in Mawalapaddimuruppu, Mankulamon on Tuesday (18) saw the General Officer Commanding 64 Division, Major General Manjula Karunarathne lay the foundation stone for construction of a new house for one Mr V. Vigneshwaran and her family who are undergoing severe hardships.

The project launched with blessings of Major General Upali Rajapaksha, Commander Security Forces, Mullattivu is sponsored by US Residents Mr and Mrs Don Lakshman Jayamaha on the request of Major General Manjula Karunarathne.

Troops of the 23 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment under the supervision of Brigadier Shashika Perera, Commander 642 Brigade will provide much-needed manpower and technical assstance for construction work. The occasion, organized to be in line with the commemoration of the 12th 'Victory Day' was attended by the Divisional Secretary in Oddusuddan, government officials Senior Officers and troops, associated with the construction.

On the same day, troops began completing the half-done house of one Mr R. Chandrakumara and her family in Sinnasalamban, Oddusuddan after another Southerner Mr Don Lakshman Jayamaha (Junior) based in the US pledged financial support for its construction to the GOC of the 64 Division.

According to the conceptual notion of General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, the special Housing Project for the needy commenced as community projects, launched from SFHQs, Divisions and Brigades across the country.
