Troops of the 64 Division HQ of the SFHQ-MLT a few days ago bade farewell to their outgoing General Officer Commanding (GOC) Major General Manjula Karunarathne at the Divisional Headquarters. Military traditions and formalities dominated the day.
Troops offered a Guard Turnout salute to the outgoing GOC as he entered the premises. In the office he placed his signature for relinquishment of duties and received best wishes from Senior Officers before he delivered the formal farewell address. He thanked each and everyone for all the support given in the performance of his duties and wanted the same be lent to his successor.
By showing their gratitude to his dedicated service, he was awarded a special memento in front of the restricted gathering on the same occasion. A street line salute followed afterwards as he proceeded out of the 64 Division HQ compound.
Brigade Commanders of under command Brigades, Commanding Officers of under command battalions, staff officers of Brigades, Officers and Other Ranks gathered for the occasion, adhering to best health practices.
Major General Manjula Karunarathne having served the Army for over threee decades were to retire.
