621 Brigade with a Long History Marks Its Anniversary

Troops of the 621 Brigade under the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W) which had actively contributed to the eradication of terrorism, particularly from Welioya area, commemorated its 4th anniversary, although its history is traced to way back in 1983.

Formal military honours to the Brigade Commander, troop address, all rank lunch, donation of push bicycles to civilians and an alms-giving to the Maha Sangha at Buddhangala Buddhist temple and an entertainment sessions, marked the anniversary day on December 1 (Monday).

621 Brigade was instrumental in resettling 2011 families from former so-called border villages, like Monerawewa, Kalyanipura, Gajabapura, Ehetugaswewa, Ethawetunuwewa and Nikawewa. It had been raised in 1983 as an Engineer detachment in the 1984 and its renaming as the Coordinating Headquarters, afterwards was renamed as 6 Brigade in 1990 and as 223 Brigade from 27 July 1997.
