Giving a helping hand to the sustenance of the newly- resettled people at Veheratenna village, a new initiative taken by the 62 Division Headquarters of the Security Force Headquarters-Wanni (SFHQ-W) recently gave away 1750 coconut seedlings to 350 families in Veheratenna, following sponsorship provided by Colombo Ananda College Kalutara District Old Boys Association and Vavuniya Coconut Cultivation Board.
Under this programme coordinated jointly by 62 Division, 623 Brigade and 26 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment troops, each family received 5 coconut saplings plus a 5 kg pack of fertilizer, free of charge as an incentive to coconut cultivation in the area.
Meanwhile, the same 62 Division Headquarters with the patronage of ‘Blissful Minds Group’ of Messrs Chinthaka Ubhayaratne, Sam Chandrasoma, Praneeth Manamperi, Akila De Silva and members of their families, gifted 50 kids’ push bicycles for the benefit of children in the age range of 4-7 years, resident in Sampathnuwara area. Distribution of those bicycles took place at the Welioya Divisional Secretariat on the recommendations of respective Grama Seva officials in the Welioya Divisional Secretariat area.
The distribution ceremony, attended by Brigadier K.G.D Perera, General Officer Commanding, 62 Division, Colonel I.H.M.N.N Herath, 621 Brigade Commander, several officers, representatives of the donors, occurred on Saturday (11) on the eve of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year festival.
