61 Infantry Division Continues Supply of Transport & Cooked Meals in Matara

In spite of inclement weather patterns and swelling flood levels, tireless troops of the 61 Infantry Division, engaged in the emergency flood relief operations in Aththudawa, Nariduwa, Naimbala and Thihagoda Divisional Secretariat areas continued to provide cooked meals to those who had been affected due to floods in the past 48 hours.

Meanwhile, 9 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment troops of the 613 Infantry Brigade are continuing their humanitarian assistance role by providing transport facilities aboard Army boats and military vehicles for trapped villagers in the Thihagoda Divisional Secretariat Division areas. The 3(Volunteer) Gemunu Watch troops similarly distributed essential items and meals to the affected-community.

Major General R.A.J.N Ranasinghe RSP USP ndc, the General Officer Commanding, 61 Infantry Division closely attended to the needs and participated in the Disaster Management Centre conference, chaired by Hon Minister of Power and Energy (MP) Kanchan Wijesekara, on Saturday (7 Oct) and discussed the current disaster situation, remedial actions and future plans for affected areas in Matara District.
