Giving more and more colourfulness and grandeur to Wanni Vesak commemorative arrangements, troops of 611, 612 and 613 Brigades under 61 Division made elaborate preparations in their areas with the directions, given by Brigadier A. Kariyakarawana, General Officer Commanding, 61 Division and respective Brigade Commanders.
More than 500 civilians in Periya Pandivirichchan area enjoyed the hospitality of 24 Gajaba Regiment troops of 613 Brigade when they were invited to taste the flavor of rice and curry, cooked for the ‘Vesak Dansela,’ held in front of the Periya Pandivirichchan school under Pandivirichchan (East) Grama Seva Division. Troops generously served meals to those civilians on account of Vesak.
A similar mammoth rice and curry (Dansela) treat close to Pandiyankulam Vidyalaya situated in the Pandiyankulam Grama Seva Division drew the participation of over 500 civilians of the area. 33 Sri Lanka National Guard troops serving 612 Brigade area in Manthai (East) organized the Dansela in connection with Vesak.
Meanwhile, 9 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) troops serving Vilathikulam Grama Seva Division with the patronage received from ‘Gospel for Asia Dayawa’ organization distributed 120 pairs of spectacles among civilians with poor eye-sight. Distribution took place at Vilatthikulam RDN building on Tuesday (8).
In the meantime, an exhibition of Vesak lanterns, staged by 612 Brigade Headquarters with the participation of different unit troops serving the Brigade, took place inside Pandiyankulam school premises for two days. Many lanterns crafted by troops were exhibited in connection with Vesak at the venue.
For inauguration of these arrangements, Brigadier A. Kariyakarawana, General Officer Commanding, 61 Division, Commanders of 611, 612 and 613 Brigade Headquarters, officers and senior civilians from respective areas showed up during those two days (May 5-6).
