61 Div Organized Mega Anniversary Musical Show Draw Youngsters in Madu Areas


Madu area-based 61 Division Headquarters recently marked its 4th anniversary with a series of arrangements on the instructions of its General Officer Commanding, Brigadier A. Kariyakarawana.

A mega musical show backed by popular ‘Marians’ band and the Army’s western beat band thrilled both civilians and Army personnel alike throughout the evening when popular Tamil and Sinhala vocalists rent the air with their latest Tamil and Sinhala hits. The show was held at 61 Division Headquarters playground as dusk fell.

Major General A.K.S. Perera, Commander, Security Forces Headquarters, Wanni (SFHQ - W) at the invitation of the 61 Division General Officer Commanding, together with several senior officers, attended the occasion as the Chief Guest.

During the event, distribution of  prizes and merit awards to the best sportsmen in units under the 61 Division who did well in the volleyball, cricket tournaments, marathon races and tugs of war,  prior to the Division day, took place, adding importance to the day’s entertaining feature.

People in their hundreds, including mostly the youngsters, flocked to the 61 Division Headquarters grounds to enjoy the rare entertainment in the area that pleasant evening.

Meanwhile, the 61 Division Headquarters earlier had a blood donation campaign on account of the recent Poson Full Moon Poya Day ceremony. Over 100 officers and soldiers donated blood on the occasion to be used for patients undergoing treatment in Vauniya and other peripheral hospitals.

All those projects received the support of Brigade Headquarters and formations serving under the 61 Division.
