Several areas of Colombo city were inundated due to adverse weather conditions including Wanathamulla, disrupting the daily routine of the civilian population of the area. Upon assessing the situation, distribution of cooked meals to affected people of Wanathamulla area was carried out by 14 Vijayabahu Infantry (14 VIR) Regiment and 6 Gajaba Regiment (6 GR) troops on Sunday (03 Sep). During the event, 47 members of 08 families received meals who were unable to leave their homes due to swelling water levels.
Meanwhile, on the same day, a tree fell onto the road near the Pettah railway station and obstructed motor traffic in the area and day-to-day work of the civilians in the area. Troops of 14 VIR promptly acted to remove the tree from the spot with the support of Colombo Municipal Council Fire Brigade.
The meal distribution and the disaster relief operation were conducted as per the directions given by Brigadier K.A.W.N.H Bandaranayake USP, General Officer Commanding, 14 Infantry Division and Brigadier J.K.R.P Jayasinghe RSP USP, Commander of 142 Infantry Brigade.
