593 Brigade Troops Screen Visually-Impaired Mullaittivu Civilians During Free Eye Clinic

Troops of the 593 Infantry Brigade of the 68 Infantry Division organized an eye clinic for the benefit of the general public in Puthukkudiyiruppu on 29 November at 6 Sri Lanka National Guard camp premises.

27 out of a total of 242 people attending the mobile eye clinic were identified to undergo Cataract surgery. Those identified patients are scheduled to undergo surgeries at the Vavuniya Teaching Hospital in future through the coordination of the troops. The group of 188 visually-impaired individuals, identified during the clinic are to get free spectacles in the future through Army coordination.

The organization, 'Assist Resettlement and Renaissance' Secretary, Dr. V Saveswaran, Dr. Fathima Nishna (Eye Surgeon) in Mancholai Hospital and their medical staff assisted the conduct of the medical camp.

Major General M.K Jayawardena RSP VSV USP ndu, Commander, Security Forces-Mullaittivu, Major General S Kasthurimudali RSP ndc psc, General Officer Commanding, 68 Infantry Division and Brigadier H.V.A Somaweera RWP RSP USP, Brigade Commander, 593 Brigade gave necessary guidance for coordination of the community-oriented project.
