Major General U.K.D.D.P Udugama RWP RSP USP ndc psc, assumed duties as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 59 Infantry Division under the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni, amidst religious blessings and military formalities at the 59 Division Headquarters on 15 July 2024.
The newly-appointed General Officer Commanding was warmly welcomed by the Division Staff Officers, Brigade Commanders and Commanding Officers according a Guard Turnout and Guard of Honour by the troops of 6 Gemunu Watch Battalion.
The new GOC afterwards symbolically signed an official document to mark the assumption of his duties after the religious observances.
Soon after adding memories for the day, the new GOC was invited to plant a sapling in the premises before he posed for a few group photographs.
After a while he addressed all Officers and Other Ranks where he expressed his vision for the Division in future.
Then after everyone participated in the All-Rank tea according to the day's agenda.
The Senior Officers of the Division conducted a comprehensive briefing on the role, tasks, deployment, future plans, and administrative matters pertaining to the 59 Infantry Division.
Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks were present during the day's event.
