Major General Jayantha Gunarathna, the newly-appointed General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 58 Division Headquarters in Boossa assumed office on Monday (18) amid religious blessings.
A brief religious ceremony, headed by members of the Maha Sangha chanted ‘Seth Pirith’ and invoked blessings after the new GOC lit the traditional oil lamp and warmed the new office upon entering the premises.
A Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honour greeted him soon after his arrival at the premises before he was invited to add memories to the occasion by planting a sapling in the premises.
A few minutes later, the new GOC addressed officers and troops and joined a common tea arrangement with All Ranks. He is the 12th GOC of the 58 Division. He succeeded Major General Sudath Perera who is scheduled to retire from the Army.
All Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers and Unit Commander under the 58 Division were present during the day’s event.
