The annual 'Army Road Race', organized for the 57th consecutive time, began at the entrance of the Army HQ on Friday (23 Feb) morning in the presence of Major General S.P.A.I.M.B Samarakoon Hdmc Lsc, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army.
The marathon, spanning approximately 22 km from Battaramulla to the Panagoda Army Cantonment, attracted 131 participants from 17 Regiments, including 20 women sprinters. Under the guidance of Major General R.A.J.N. Ranasinghe RSP USP ndc, the chairman of the Sri Lanka Army Athletic Committee arranged the event.
The race began at 6.00 a.m, traversing through Diyatha Uyana, Battaramulla, Malabe, Athurugiriya, and Habarakada before culminating near the Army Gymnasium at Panagoda.
Major General S.W.M. Fernando WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc, the Commander, Security Forces - West, and several other Senior Officers were at the finish line to receive the racers along with a crowd of sports enthusiasts.
Afterwards, the Commander, Security Forces - West, was invited to award medals and trophies to achievers in the road race, together with the Chairman of the Army Athletic Committee.

First Place - Lance Corporal H.D.S.D Gunasekara of Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers
Second Place – Private G.K.D. Madushanka of Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers
Third Place – Bombardier K Sammugeshwaran of Sri Lanka Artillery
Women’s Category
First Place – Lance Corporal H.M.C.S Herath of Sri Lanka General Service Corps
Second Place - Lance Corporal W.A.M.N Nidarshani of Sri Lanka Signal Corps
Third Place - Lance Corporal L.A.N.D Liyanage of Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps
