Troops of the 572 Brigade of the 57 Division under the Security Force Headquarters - Mullaittivu with the view to providing possibilities for income-generating sources and multiplying nutrition factor among needy communities recently released 75,000 fish fingerlings into the Pilamanthallaru tank in Mullaittivu area as the second phase of the same project.
Major General Sanjaya Wanasingha, Commander, Security Forces - Mullaittivu gave his blessings to the project as it would help generate additional income for underprivileged fishing families as well as families suffering malnutrition due to lack of nutrients.
More than twenty-five fishing families in Pilamanthallaru area are benefited as a result of this project.
The project got to a start some time ago on the directions of the General Officer Commanding, 57 Division, Major General Priyantha Jayawardana. The Commander, 572 Brigade¬, Brigadier Nishantha Muthumala gave guidelines to go ahead with the project in co-operation with Mullaittivu - based National Aquaculture Development Authority (NAQDA) branch.
Aquaculture Officer for Northern Province, Mr S Sangeedan, Divisional Aquaculture Officer and members of the fishing community joined the occasion of releasing those fingerlings.
