571 Brigade Troops Support Temple Unit Construction

The newly-constructed ‘Lumbini’ Pilgrims’ Rest and  the ‘Sri Sumana Saman’ shrine were ceremonially opened by Major General Amal Karunasekara, Commander, Security Force Headquarters – Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) on 27 December at the invitation of the chief incumbent, Ven. Ingiriye Dhammalankara, Chief Prelate, Lumbini Vihara, Kilinochchi.

Troops of the 571 Brigade and devout donors assisted  the construction of  the new pilgrims’ rest where devotees to the temple and those passing the area could receive accommodation free of charge.

On the same day, the 571 Brigade organized a Pirith chanting ceremony to coincide with the opening ceremony in the Lumbini Temple premises.

Ven. Millawe Sumanathissa thera chief incumbent, Purvarama Vihara, Moragahahena, and Ven. Ingiriye Dhammalankara, Chief Prelate, Lumbini Vihara, Kilinochchi, together with 35 other members of the Maha Sangha were conducted to the temple premises for chanting in a colourful procession.

The religious ceremony culminated with an alms-giving. The overlooking General Officer Commanding 57 Division, Brigade Commanders, Senior Officers, officers and other ranks participated in the occasion.
