57 Division Troops Support Conduct of ‘Katina’ Ceremony at Mankulam Temple

The annual ‘Katina Pinkama’ (offer of robes in rainy season) to the members of the Maha Sangha at Mankulam Sri Sugatha Viharaya took place at the temple premises during 6-7 October with the assistance, provided by the troops of the Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN).

Ven. Higurankande Sumana Thero, Chief Incumbent at Mankulam Sri Sugatha Viharaya performed religious observances during a Bodhi Pooja, held in the previous evening (6) with the participation of Army troops of the 57 Division in Kilinochchi and 574 Brigade Headquarters before the following day’s main segment.

Major General Jagath Gunawardana, General Officer Commanding, 57 Division, together with Colonel Chandana Somaweera, Brigade Commander, 574 Brigade and troops serving all formations under the 57 Division, gave their assistance to conduct the traditional ‘Katina Cheevara’ procession, the following day (7).

Ven. Muwatagama Ananda Thero, Chief Incumbent at Madukanda Sri Dalada Viharaya delivered the main oration and highlighted the importance of the ‘Katina Pooja’ at the invitation of Ven. Higurankande Sumana Thero, Chief Incumbent at Mankulam Sugatha Viharaya.

Major General Jagath Gunawardena, General Officer Commanding, 57 Division, Colonel Chandana Somaweera, Brigade Commander, 574 Brigade, Officers, Other Rankers and devotees took part in the ‘Katina Pinkama’ where ‘Heel Daana’ (breakfast) and alms (Saangika Daana) were offered to members of the Maha Sangha who took part in the annual ceremony.

The ‘Saraswathie’ cultural centre at Pannipitiya sponsored the conduct of the entire ceremony and the alms-giving. Representatives from the donors were also present during the meritorious event, largely supported by Army personnel of the 574 Brigade.
