56 Military Officers Receive DSCSC Graduation

THE THIRD graduation ceremony at the Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC), Sapugaskanda was held Tuesday (29) morning at the DSCSC auditorium, chaired by Prime Minster Ratnasiri Wickramanayake as Chief Guest.

Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Air Force Air Marshal Roshan Gunatillake, Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Tisara Samarasinghe and several former Army Commanders graced the occasion as distinguished guests.

The day’s proceedings were inaugurated with the lighting of the traditional oil lamp. It was followed by a two-minute silence in honour of all the fallen War Heroes.

56 Graduands at DSCSC received their graduation from the Chief Guest on the occasion. The group was  comprised of 30 officers from Sri Lanka Army, 10 officers from Sri Lanka Navy, 11 officers from Sri Lanka Air Force and 1 officer from Sri Lanka Police and four foreign officers from Bangladesh, Indian and Nepal Armies and Maldives National Defence Force.  Spouses of the graduates and well-wishers were also present on the occasion.   

Addressing the new officers, the Prime Minister said that the people here and abroad have the highest regard for members of the three armed forces and the Police after eradication of terrorism from the country since they were the people who defended the sovereignty and integrity of the country. As members of disciplined forces they are expected to take collective responsibility for what they are doing, the Chief Guest told the gathering. 

Those officer students who emerged 1st In Order of Merit of their respective wings were awarded “The Golden Owl Award”.

The overall performance award for this year was won by Major P R Chauhan of the Indian Army.

Major G D J C Premathilake of the Sri Lanka Army, Lieutenant Commander M.T.S Karunathunga of Navy and Wing  Commander L.H Sumanaweera of Air Force won Golden Owl Awards in the course.

Major G.D.J.C Premathilaka of the Army carried away “Commandant’s Golden Pen Award” for his research paper.
