The 553 Infantry Brigade of the 55 Infantry Division under command to the Security Force Headquarters-Jaffna organized a distribution of economic saplings and school accessories during a brief ceremony at Ramanathapuram Government's Tamil Mixed School in Jaffna on 31 August 2023.
Accordingly, 200 underprivileged students in the area were gifted a school bag, accessories and essential textbooks. Generous well-wishers and philanthropists at the request of the Army provided financial contribution to this event for purchase of those essentials.
Meanwhile, 200 Coconut, Kumbuk, Mee, Palmyrah, Jak and Kohomba saplings along with a 5 kg organic fertilizer bag was given free of charge to 200 families through sponsorship provided by the Kandawalai Divisional Secretariat and MAS Holdings through Army coordination.
Major General S.R.K Hettiarachchi RWP RSP VSV USP ndu psc, Commander Security Forces- Jaffna graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
Major General R.K.N.C Jayawardena RSP ndc, General Officer Commanding, 55 Infantry Division supported the project. It was launched under the close supervision of Brigadier G.S.K Perera RSP, 553 Infantry Brigade Commander with the participation of 6 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment and 14 Sri Lanka National Guard troops.
The General Officer Commanding, 55 Infantry Division, 553 Infantry Brigade Commander, Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks and beneficiaries were also present during the event.
