553 Brigade troops of the 55 Division under the Security Force HQ-Jaffna, giving a further boost to their house construction project for needy civilians under the Commander's conceptual guidance to that effect on Monday (9) vested one more new home, built at Maradankerni area in another poor family with two little girls.
Troops with financial sponsorship, provided by the Samurdhi Bank on the instructions of their Commanding Officers and the 55 Division's GOC, Major General Mahinda Jayawardene, erected this new home for the family under 'Hisata Sevanak' project of the Samurdhi Bank at a minimal cost.
The new home was warmed by Major General Jagath Kodituwakku, Commander, Security Forces-Jaffna at the invitation of the GOC, 55 Division during a simple ceremony adhering to health regulations. Mrs Dushanthi Judith Robin, the beneficiary has been dependent on Samurdhi welfare relief of the government and leading a miserable life when her plight was brought to the notice of the troops.
During the opening ceremony, the 553 Brigade's 10 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment troops who toiled to erect this new home were generous enough to gift a large stock of dry rations, home appliances, exercise books and school accessories also to the family taking an own initiative among those troops considering her economic difficulties. The day's Chief Guest, together with children of the family cut a ribbon and warmed the house in accordance with Hindu traditions after the symbolic key was handed to the beneficiary at first.
Divisional Secretary for Maradenkerni sector, GOC, 55 Division, 553 Brigade Commander, Samurdhi Bank officials, relatives of the family and state officials were present at the occasion.
