More than 200 saplings of coconut, Mee, Iron-wood, Jamun, Kumbuk and Jack were planted in the 553 Brigade Headquarters compound on Monday (25) as part of the ‘Thuru Mithuru Nawa Ratak’ project of the Commander of the Army.
Troops of the 553 Brigade in cooperation with the Coconut Cultivation Board and the Forest Department launched this tree planting programme inside the 553 Brigade premises.
This tree planting programme was launched on the instructions of the General Officer Commanding, 55 Division and under the close supervision of Brigadier Rohan Jayakody, Brigade Commander, 553 Brigade.
Commanding Officers of under command battalions, Staff Officers of 553 Brigade also joined the event.
