To go hand in hand with the ongoing de-mining projects in several 55 Division areas in Vettalkerny, Jaffna, the 552 Brigade Headquarters in consultation with education authorities took steps recently to conduct a series of seminars on ‘Mine Risk Education Programme’ in a few schools in the area.
The first seminar kicked off at Pulopalei Roman Catholic Tamil Mixed School with the participation of Colonel W.G.D Wanniarachchi, Commander 552 Brigade. Principal, teachers and all the students attended the seminar, organized by 23 Gemunu Watch and 10 Field Engineer Regiment troops on Friday (May 11).
In parallel with this awareness programme, 552 Brigade handed over a stock of books for use of students at Pulopalei Roman Catholic Tamil Mixed School, worth over Rs 10,000/=. The stock has been provided by the National Library Services Board at Colombo at the request of the 552 Brigade.
Meanwhile, over 218 officers and soldiers serving 551 Brigade Headquarters area donated blood during a medical camp, organized at Thaleiadi RCTM school on Sunday (20).
Many civilians also joined the blood donation programme, led by Consultant Drs R.M.S Sri Ram, K.T.R Pradeepan and a medical staff of seven members. All those attendees including the donors were provided with lunch and refreshments during the programme.
