552 Brigade &;amp; 17 Gemunu Watch Troops Coordinate Donation of School Items


In what is seen as another community project in the Jaffna peninsula, 552 Brigade troops at Iyakkachchi harnessed the support of Three-wheeler Drivers’ Association, Traders’ Association and the Cooperative Society of the Pallai town and recently donated exercise books and school accessories to 24 students of Arathinagar Roman Catholic Tamil Mixed School.

In addition to gift parcels, worth Rs 1500/= each, the donors also offered school bags to the students, along with a stock of library books to the school at the same occasion.

Meanwhile, a team of Buddhist monks, headed by Ven Dr Medagoda Abeytissa Nayaka Thera, Chief Incumbent Sri Sunethra Devi Pirivena at Pepliliyana and senior lecturer at Sri Jayawardanepura University during a recent visit to the Jaffna peninsula gifted 166 students of Velanai Sarasvathi Vidyalaya with a large stock of school books, accessories and other items.

The same team gifted the school principal, Mrs Nanthani Panchalingam with a new water filter and a few other school equipment on the same occasion. 17 Gemunu Watch (GW) troops serving the Kayts Island coordinated the donation on the instructions of the civil affairs office in the 51 Division.
