551 Brigade Troops Pull out Wild Bushes & Clean Roadsides in Jaffna

A 'Shramadana' (self-help) campaign to rid mosquito-breeding spots and control the spread of Dengue while simultaneously removing bushes with pollen that cause respiratory complications got underway in Jaffna on Tuesday (11).

During this community - based project, the 4 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment and 16 Sri Lanka Light Infantry troops in Puloly cleaned both roadsides covering a patch of about 4 km along Uduppiddi -Karanawai road in Point Pedro, Jaffna (A-20).

This programme was launched on a suggestion of the Commander Security Forces-Jaffna, Major General Priyantha Perera and under the guidance of the General Officer Commanding, 55 Division, Major General Sisira Pilapitiya. The Brigade Commander 551 Brigade supervised the project.

Residents in respective areas, employees and officials of the Point Pedro Pradeshiya Sabha too contributed to the effort.
