The 55 Infantry Division under command to the Security Force HQ- Jaffna in a move to cut down fuel expenditure, environmental pollution and encourage riding for the best of health took an initiative to repair 42 foot cycles hitherto remained unserviceable or idling without spare parts and distribute them among all under command Brigades and Battalions in the 55 Infantry Division area of responsibility on Thursday (30 March).
Initiated by the General Officer Commanding, 55 Infantry Division, Major General Prasanna Gunaratne, the project received the guidance of the Commander, Security Forces- Jaffna, Major General Swarna Bothota and the Colonel Administration and Quartering of the 55 Infantry Division, Colonel Ranith Jayasinghe who actively supervised the project in view of its timely importance.
All those remnants of unserviceable foot cycles remained idling and rusty in different formations due to lack of spare parts and unserviceability for a long time. The project began to assemble all those bicycles to one location before repairs were initiated with minimum cost within few weeks before they were put to good use.
Colonel Administration and Quartering, 55 Infantry Division, Colonel Ranith Jayasinghe with several officers distributed those repaired bicycles to respective Brigades and Battalions.
