55 Infantry Division Holds its New Year Festival

The 55 Infantry Division of the Security Force HQ - Jaffna with the objective of bringing New Year spirits into All Ranks serving under the 55 Infantry Division and civilians in Pallai area held its New Year festival, rich with traditional games and fun-making features at the Pallai public ground on 10 April 2023.

Major General M. K. U. P Gunaratne RSP ndu psc IG, General Officer Commanding 55 Infantry Division attended the inauguration of the festival as the Chief Guest.

Traditional games and fun-making features included pillow challenge, breaking the pots, tug-of-war, eyeing the elephant, coconut leaves weaving, coconut-scraping, playing musical chairs, inflating a balloon, bun eating, sack race, the lime-on-spoon race, kolam rata, fancy dress event, etc.

During the same festival, the Divisional Secretariat with the support of 55 Infantry Division troops organized a trade fair at the same location.

Major General M. K. U. P Gunaratne RSP ndu psc IG, General Officer Commanding 55 Infantry Division provided necessary guidance. Colonel J. S. S. Radellage RWP RSP, Brigade Commander, 552 Infantry Brigade and Lieutenant Colonel R R S Dehigala, Civil Affairs Officer 552 Infantry Brigade coordinated with the Divisional Secretariat, Pallai Police Station, Pallai Trade Association, civil groups and sponsors of the event.

The Commander of the 551 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier S. J Kariyakarawana RWP RSP USP Staff Officers of 55 Infantry Division, Commanding Officers, and other Officers of Brigades and Battalions, Senior Superintendent of Police for Kilinochchi district, Mr Ajith Gunaratne, the Divisional Secretary for Pallai, Mr Krishna Rajendran, the Chief Inspector of the Pallai Police Station, Mr Kularathna, the Chairman of the Pallai Trade Association, Mr Kujanathan, Hindu Union representatives, social activists, Mr Mathan, a donor and civilians participated in the Sinhala and Hindu New Year festival.
