Major General Mahinda Jayawardena assumed duties as the 25th General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 55 Division of the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna during a simple ceremony on Wednesday (23) at the Divisional Headquarters in Kaddaikadu, Jaffna.
The incoming General Officer Commanding of the 55 Division was welcomed by Officers and Other Ranks in the Division on arrival. The newly-appointed General Officer Commanding afterwards placed his signature for an official document to signify the acceptance of his new office amid religious blessings.
Commanders of under command Brigades, Commanding Officers, Staff Officers of the 55 Division also attended at the event. Due to the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic situation in the country, taking over formalities were carried out in accordance with the health guidelines.
Major General Mahinda Jayawardena, prior to this new appointment served as the Commander Forward Maintenance Area - Kilinochchi. He succeeds Major General Sisira Pilapitiya who has now been appointed as the Commander, Security Forces-Mullaittivu.
