16 Sri Lanka Light Infantry and Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment troops of the 55 Division on Thursday (29) and on Friday (30) respectively carried out an awareness project on COVID-19 in Manthikai areas.
On the instructions of the General Officer Commanding, 55 Division Major General Sisira Pilapitiya and the Commander 551 Brigade, Brigadier Chinthaka Wickramasinghe, the awareness project educated the masses on the importance of wearing of facial masks, social distancing practices, health practices and all other preventive measures.
The project covered Manthikai commercial complex and market areas, hospital premises and Point Pedro town area during busy hours. In addition, troops distributed a stock of face masks free of charge among civilians in those areas during the project.
Public Health Inspectors, Police officers, Grama Niladhari officials and other state officials joined hands with troops to carry out the programme.
