Following a generous sponsorship provided by an anonymous donor, 55 Division troops of the Security Force HQ - Jaffna coordinated and distributed more than 175 dry ration packs among needy families in GN divisions of Katkowalam, Thumpalai, Puloly North, Vallipuram, Thunnalai villages in Point Pedro, Jaffna on Wednesday (16).
Under the guidance of the General Officer Commanding Major General Sisira Pilapitiya and on the guidelines given by Major General Priyantha Perera, Commander Security Forces-Jaffna.
The relief project, an initiative of the General Officer Commanding, 55 Division saw those dry rations and essentials carried to doorsteps and handed as per directions. It was meant to ease low-income families of their undergoing hardships due to prevailing COVID -19 pandemic situation in the area.
Brigadier Asanka Wikramasinghe, Commander 551 Brigade, Commanding Officer, Officers and Other Ranks of 16th Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry, Grama Niladaris of the villages and Public Health Inspectors joined the programme after visiting doorsteps of all those recipients.
