Representative members of many fishermen’s societies in the eastern coastal areas of the Jaffna peninsula during a cordial interaction with the General Officer Commanding of the 55 Division on Sunday (12) assured their cooperation to the Army-initiated development and welfare projects in their area.
The interactive meeting, organized on the directions of Brigadier Ajith Wijesinghe, General Officer Commanding, 55 Division at the 55 Division Headquarters, saw a wide range of issues, related to their livelihood were taken up for discussion and solutions.
Those attendees received a comprehensive picture as regards the string of different welfare projects being implemented by the 55 Division in order to further improve their livelihood in coordination with state and private sector agencies.
Giving a patient hearing to their pestering day-today problems, the General Officer Commanding assured all the support to resolve them and presented them with an account of future programmes, scheduled for the benefit of fishermen living there.
Almost all fishermen’s societies covering Thalaiady, Vathirayan, Uduththurai, Maruthankerny, Aliyavalai, Veththilaikerny, Champianpattu and Kaddaikadu areas gathered together for the meeting.
