The Inter Battalion Drill Competition of the 55 Division under the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) got underway during December 6-8 at the 55 Divisional Headquarters parade ground.
Major General Nirmal Dharmarathna, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 55 Division welcomed the day’s Chief Guest, Major General Mahesh Senanayake, Commander, Security Forces – Jaffna (SF-J) at the entrance to the venue.
The Drill Competition is organized aiming to promote interest for personal drill, infuse self discipline and develop personality and tolerance capacity aiming officers and soldiers in the 55 Division.
1 Mechanized Infantry Regiment (MIR) of the 553 Brigade carried away the trophy in Drills beating 7 teams as Champions in the competition after a close encounter with the runners-up.
The 12 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) of the 552 Brigade emerged runners-up. Captain K.V.D.M Samarasinghe of 1 MIR was adjudged the Best Platoon Commander while Warrant Officer II D.A Dinapala of 1 MIR was awarded the Best Drill Instructor award.
Winners were awarded trophies by the day’s chief guest, Major General Mahesh Senanayake, Commander, SF (J) towards the end of the event.
All Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers, senior officers and other rankers witnessed the drill competition finals.
