More than 136 Army personnel, attached to the 542 Brigade of the 54 Division under the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W) serving Manthottam, Mannar, voluntarily offered their blood to the patients at Mannar Hospital on Sunday (23), following a request made by the Chief Medical Officer of the Murunkan Provincial Hospital, Mannar.
The full-day blood donation campaign at the Murunkan Hospital premises was organized under the guidance of Brigadier N.P Akuranthilaka, 542 Brigade Commander who himself too donated his blood during the arrangement.
Mannar General Hospital Blood Bank in need of blood for surgeries and emergencies has approached Murunkan Provincial Hospital since the stocks were fast on the decrease. In turn, the Chief Medical Officer at Murunkan Provincial Hospital has sought the assistance of the 542 Brigade troops for collection of blood in writing.
542 Brigade during the programme provided snacks and refreshments to the donors and the medical staff in the Hospital.
