Troops of the 12 (Volunteer) Sri Lanka Artillery of the 541 Infantry Brigade of the 54 Division under command to the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni, re-affirming their humane approach and magnanimity towards all, irrespective of ethnicity or social status, built a new kitchen unit to a former handicapped LTTE woman combatant, resident in the general area of Mundampiddi, Mannar and left it for her use on Sunday (27).

Generous troops of the 12 (v) Sri Lanka Artillery on being informed of her miserable plight got together and raised their own money for construction of her kitchen unit using their technical knowhow and manpower.

Mrs Rajagan Meri Jude Raji, a former woman combatant during the peak of LTTE terrorists' fight for division of the country sustained severe injuries in the war and turned physically-handicapped and was compelled to lead a hand-to-mouth life while undergoing severe economic hardships.

The project got underway under the guidance of Brigadier Dasantha Munasinghe, Commander, 541 Infantry Brigade and it was supervised by Major A.A.S Amarathunga, Commanding Officer, 12 (v) Sri Lanka Artillery troops who provided his troops' expertise and their manpower to erect this much-needed kitchen unit.

Brigadier Dasantha Munasinghe, Commander, 541 Infantry Brigade together with a few senior Officers participated in the brief ceremony that saw the formal completion of the project.

A few dry ration packets were also handed over to the beneficiary at the same time and one more dry ration pack was gifted to Mr Seviyar Antony Sylvester, one more ex-LTTE combatant who lives in the same area.
